Uli Meyer

Professional Biography:
My professional background lies in Germany, where I graduated with a degree in banking that is comparable to a Bachelor's.  In 2003 I volunteered my services as a librarian when the school was in need of one.  In 2004 I was brought on as an official staff member and have served in the librarian position ever since.

Personal Biography:
I grew up in Germany as the oldest of five siblings.  My husband and I met in high school and got married in 1990.  In 1994, the adviser for his PhD was moving to the United States and asked my husband whether he wanted to come along.  We agreed and moved in December of 1994 with two little kids.  We’ve had two more kids here—both of whom are still students at SJCS.  Besides being a mom and working as the librarian, I enjoy many activities—reading is obviously one of them.  I listen to kid's audio books on my exercise machine and read other books in the hot tub. Running, cooking and knitting are some of my favorite things to do, but what gives me the most energy is getting together with friends.

Christian Philosophy of Education:
I try to instill in the students a love for reading that will pave the way for them in their academic careers and bring them lifelong joy. Through the many different stories they encounter, kids will learn about life and how to find their way to becoming the person God intends them to be.   Reading Christianly means reading actively, and I encourage the students to be critical thinkers about both the technical quality of the literature they read and the themes put forth in these works.  This way, whether students read specifically Christian texts or those written from a secular perspective, they will be able to interact with the books within the context of a Christian worldview.
