Frequently Asked Questions
What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re
purchasing gift cards that are used just like cash. These cards are available from
companies for everyday expenses like food, clothing, fuel, other essentials, dining,
entertainment and more! With every purchase you make of Scrip, SJCS earns revenue.
Which retailers participate in the Scrip program?
We have many retailers listed on the SJCS order form. However, you can download a complete list of retailers from the "Resource" section on the right hand side of this page. If you want to purchase scrip for a retailer not listed on our order form, just write it in on the bottom of our order form and we will order it for you.
How does Scrip generate revenue for SJCS?
Every Scrip purchase from a participating retailer results in SJCS receiving 2%-15% of the purchase price (percentage varies according to individual retailer agreement). For example, if you purchase a $100 Safeway card to use for groceries, SJCS will
receive 4%, or $4 from that purchase. Scrip is “shopping cart fundraising” since it can generate revenue for SJCS from your regular household purchases. So rather than paying retailers directly, buy Scrip gift cards and then do your shopping. There’s no additional cost to you and it creates additional revenue for SJCS and tuition relief for you!
How do I purchase Scrip?
Simply complete the downloadable form indicating the type and quantity of gift cards you want to purchase. Attach payment (cash, check, or credit card) and return to the office no later than the first Friday of the month. We are now also accepting orders in the middle of each month.
